Westminster man arrested over removal of PPP/C campaign flags

A Westminster, West Bank Demerara resident was arrested by the police on Friday, days after he allegedly removed Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) election campaign flags that was being placed on utility poles in the area.

The Guyana Police Force confirmed that the man was arrested around 4.20 am at his house and is presently in police custody assisting with investigation.

The incident occurred around 9.30 pm last Sunday.

In a recent statement, the police said that a 38-year-old political activist and supporter of  the PPP/C alleged that he along with three other party members were at Westminster Road mounting PPP/C flags on the utility poles when they were confronted by the suspect.

The suspect, the police said, approached the 38-year-old political activist and allegedly pulled him off a ladder, which he then used to remove the flags and made good his escape.

The matter was reported to La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station and an investigation has since been launched.
