The time for APNU/AFC to call it a day has arrived

It is generally felt that there is a small cabal within the PNC party who feel they could hang on to office by non-credible or fraudulent elections as LFSB did. But in the over half-a-century since LFSB has passed away, the world has changed which makes fraudulent elections far less possible and to attempt to hang on to office in such circumstances is counter-productive by the day.

For example, the foreign minister’s recent riposte to the USA and the other Western countries is not only diplomatically rude but is contradictory. For example, in one breath she says “Guyana appreciates the role and work of all election observation missions”. . . but in the next breath she rejects the findings of the observers and a few weeks before, she threatened to expel them by removing their accreditation.

This kind of thing will happen the longer the cabal tries to hold on to office. In the interest of themselves and preventing the PNC party from being further weakened and ridiculed they have to act now. The only dignified exit remaining is via completing the recount immediately. President Granger showed himself far in advance of his colleagues and very far-sighted when he decided to do the recount with CARICOM involvement. The time has come for the cabal to call it a day.

The following are the ways the world has changed which makes fraudulent or non-credible elections impossible:
(1) From 1990 the USA and other Western countries had invested hundreds of millions of dollars in reestablishing Democracy in Guyana and they have no intentions of losing their investment by allowing Democracy to be destroyed and Dictatorship to resurge. Further, the USA has now evolved a new policy, just as they did the Munroe Doctrine in the 19th century, of creating an American continent where all countries would be Democracies – an oasis of Democracies among the continents of the world.

(2)The cabal is still living in the world of half a century ago and has little understanding of the new IT. It is this ignorance which caused their people in GECOM to attempt fraud in full view of the Television cameras and smart phones.

(3) The decent and intelligent members and supporters of the PNC do not approve of the tactics of fraud and are distancing themselves from the Cabal and the Party. This is unfortunately permanently weakening the Party.

(4) They are now desperately trying to boil the pot of racism.

(5) The PPP party is different from the days of Burnham and Jagan who were close friends. The PPP are resolutely committed to upholding Democracy and will not be moved from this despite cajoling and threats. When the PPP lost the last elections by one vote, they gracefully and democratically passed on the Government to the APNU/AFC. And not only the PPP leadership and its followers rock-like are committed to democracy, but the educated and intelligent supporters of the PNC are likewise committed. The few who are trying to do electoral fraud based on racism will fail.

(6) The cabal and its followers are openly boasting that they could survive and overcome sanctions from the USA and others. They are under an illusion if they think they could defy and defeat the greatest superpower on Earth.

The cabal must now realise that there is now no possibility of an acceptable or successful fraud and each day that passes brings with it more trouble and odium on their heads. The time has now come to call it a day and exit by the only opening left – the recount – put the fraud behind them, redeem themselves and plan on winning the next Election in the next 48 months.
