The term “hooliganism” is being bandied around since Thursday

Dear Editor,

We, Guyanese, know that the PNC is the only political party associated with hooligan and terrorising type behaviour which still sees business places closing their shops and offices early around the election period as a result of the long history of looting, rioting, burning of property and beating of people when the PNC does not win an election. We, Guyanese, know that when there is an election, we “catch we house” (go home and stay home) because there is lingering fear that the PNC will act like the PNC. We, Guyanese, still recall vivid memories of the stabbing and beating of dolls which were Caucasian in appearance when protests were held after Janet Jagan who was also a Caucasian was elected the President of Guyana. We, Guyanese, know this so a reminder is not the purpose of this letter.

The purpose is, however, that since there are many new foreign emissaries and expats here in Guyana at the moment, I invite those persons to read the Carter Centre Reports covering the 1992, 1997, and 2001 elections which are available online for a more graphic description of the horrors led by the PNC during those election periods. In addition, there are also videos on YouTube which give an enlightening experience.
Revisionist History will not be taught as a subject in school in Guyana.

Sincerely,
Charles S. Ramson.
Attorney-at-Law
Former Member of Parliament
