SUPPORTERS of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), on Saturday afternoon, showed up in their numbers for the last lap of the race to the general and regional elections slated for Monday, March 02, 2020.

Addressing the gathering at the rally held at Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, several candidates took to the podium to encourage supporters to come out on Monday morning to cast their ballots. Speaking to the reasonably-large crowd, Elizabeth Alleyne, a candidate on the party’s list, urged supporters to fight against the alleged injustice of the coalition government by coming out in their numbers, the same way they have showed out at previous rallies and public meetings. “I stand here before you one woman but I am not here alone, I am a part of a PPP Civic family. I want to tell you that the sacrifices that those sugar workers made, their fighting spirt have not died, it is here in all of you the people of Lusignan…and on March 2, 2020, we will fight with our votes,” Alleyne stated.

Appealing to the younger supporters, Alleyne urged them not to be brainwashed by the A Partnership for Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+ AFC) government and to encourage other youngsters like themselves to come out and vote. Alleyne further urged the supporters to look out for the elderly, disabled supporters on elections day, to ensure that they exercise their democratic right. “Bring out everybody, bring out your family, go and see that the elderly people in your village, make sure they get to vote because that is the only way we know to fight and on March 2, 2020, we will fight the injustice that has meted out by the APNU government, we will vote them out….you put your ‘x’ next to the cup,” she stated.

Additionally, Attorney-at-Law Sanjeev Datadin, related to supporters that the journey to elections was not an easy one. Stating that he worked alongside the party’s long-standing member, Anil Nandlall, in the courts Datadin related that the PPP/C has worked tirelessly and round-the-clock to ensure that its supporters were able to exercise their democratic right. “You have to make sure that you vote, get your sisters, brothers, your family, your friends get them there to vote, this was not an easy fight, March 2 didn’t come about easily, you don’t know the story, since 2018 there was a no-confidence motion in the parliament, since 2018 … We had to get the courts, we had to go to three courts, until the Caribbean Court of Justice, myself and comrade Nandlall were part of that team we had to get the court to order that they were a caretaker government,” Datadin explained.

In urging supporters to vote, Datadin stated that he wants to see all Guyanese live a prosperous and good life. However, he noted that such cannot be a reality under an APNU+AFC Administration, hence come Monday, supporters should place their ‘x’ next to the cup. “I want to see a better country for myself, for my son, for my wife, for my family, but I want to see a better country for you, for your families, your neighbors, for you friends but comrades we can’t see that with an APNU Government, they must go comrades, we can’t survive another APNU government so join me in voting for the next President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali,” he stated.
