THE Electoral Drama of 2020

Dear Editor,

When they lost the election in 2015, it was a nightmare for Bharat Jagdeo and the PPP/C.
They immediately began to work fervently from day one to bring down an elected Government. As an opposition party, they never gave support to the APNU/AFC Government-they were fired up to put their hands on the oil industry.
They never thought they could have lost the general elections. They now had to account for what they had stolen over the 23 years in Government.

The heinous crimes committed; the rampant money laundering- they allowed Guyana to serve as a trans-shipment point for the drug trade destined for North America and Europe.
The trafficking of our young women was becoming a norm; our young men couldn’t find jobs. Guyanese could no longer withstand the economic onslaught unleashed upon the nation.

They vowed to bring down the Government-led ably by President David Arthur Granger.
Jagdeo then called upon his supporters in the business community to stop investing in the economy.
One rice company immediately closed down their rice mills. The PPP/C and GAWU were then loud in their calls to bail out the sugar industry that was running at a tremendous loss.

They needed $12B dollars for a start. They called for non-cooperation from the Private Sector Commission.
The Government was forced to find that funds to save the jobs of those workers in the sugar industry on a few occasions – this could not have been sustained and as such the closing down of sugar estates to save the nation’s economy.

Commissions of Inquiry were established to investigate the theft of state property- many were afraid to go before the courts to give evidence against the blue-collar criminals who found favour with many in the judicial system.
On the 21st of December 2018, Charrandas Persaud conspired a wicked and deceitful act by voting in favour of a No-Confidence Motion proposed by Bharat Jagdeo- Opposition Leader of the PPP/C.

During this short period (2015- 2018) of their reign in Government, the APNUAFC were able to bring significant infrastructure and human resource development across the 10 administrative regions of this bountiful nation.
Immediately after coming into office, oil was discovered in 2015 and this sent shock waves across the body of the PPP/C, with Bharat Jagdeo coming out in a statement implying that only a PPP/C Government could manage an oil economy- their intention became clear -win back the Government by any means necessary .

So they desperately raced to find US$34M- an equivalent of $6.8B to invest with their high paying, allegedly corrupt US lobby firm to spread propaganda and lies hoping to win the elections.
A sum that would have been better spent with the young people of their constituency who they claim were starving on the closed sugar estates.

In fairness to President David Granger and his Government, the nation was not prepared for another general election that became possible through a conspiracy.
On three occasions litigations were brought before the local courts and the Caribbean Court of Justice by the PPP/C making it difficult for GECOM to carry out its work after the NCM was passed.
President Granger has at all times complied with the ruling of the courts during this electoral challenge which was influenced by the No Confidence Motion.

He has at all times allowed himself to be guided by the constitution of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana when taking decisions or actions that will impact positively national development and the democratic norms.
He has never wavered in his commitment to have the elections deemed credible, and as such invited the Opposition Leader and the Chairman of CARICOM to join with him in an arrangement to have GECOM do a recount of the votes cast in the General elections in Regions 1- 10, even though GECOM has declared APNU/AFC winners of the national elections held on 2nd March 2020.

With threats of protests and violence coming from the PPP/C, threats of international sanctions coming from members of the diplomatic community, all combined to force our democratically elected president to take steps to maintain peace and love among the people of Guyana- as such the GECOM recount of Regions 1-10.
