I call on religion leaders to help ease the current tensions

Dear Editor,

Guyana is a virtual tinderbox at the moment as a result of the prolonged duration in declaring the election results. It would take little for people to let go of such a volatile situation.

I implore all religious, civic, and political leaders to go the extra mile to entreat their followers to desist from violence, and use this opportunity to show acts of grace and kindness – even though one perceives the other as the antagonist.

Our peoples have suffered intensely and for a long time. Our nation cannot afford nor survive violence. It is high time that we take a deep breath and offer a prayer of love and grace – even though it is difficult to do. As an evangelical Christian, I especially appeal to pastors, leaders, Bishops, etc. to use your power and influence to impact society by being the salt and light of Christ.
