The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to refer to an Editorial titled `Truth’ in your publication on Monday March 9, 2020.
Whilst the Ministry will not comment on the content of the editorial, it is compelled to draw your attention to a particular glaring error which appears at paragraph 9 that needs correcting. The editorial claimed that the Government of Guyana had recognised Juan Guaidó as the legitimate Interim President of Venezuela. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to make it clear that at no juncture has the Government of Guyana supported or recognised Mr. Juan Guaidó as the Interim President of Venezuela. Suffice to say, that we do not believe that non-recognition of one implies automatic recognition of another.
The Ministry wishes to further state that as a responsible member of the international community, the Government of Guyana has joined the efforts of several regional and international organisations in seeking a peaceful resolution to the political situation in that country – the impact of which has been felt directly by Guyana.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would appreciate therefore if the aforementioned error could be corrected and published.
