APNU+AFC ‘sanctimonious outpourings’ useless

AT the start of the budget debate, Attorney General (AG) and Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall said Guyanese have been fed a well-known diet from the APNU+AFC of rhetoric and “sanctimonious outpourings” of their great performance when in office.

The attorney general made the observation while addressing the House during the 2020 Budget debate on Friday.
“We heard of the hypocritical illusions of a good life, similar to their hollow and fallacious campaign themes such as honesty and decency and their fabled and fanciful Decade of Development – all being warped fabrications of their fertile imaginations,” the AG said.

Fortunately, the legal affairs minister said actions speak louder than words and Guyanese along with the entire world have seen the coalition on display, not only since 2015, but more particularly from March 3, 2020 until August 2020.
By July 2020, Nandlall said due to APNU+AFC’s conspiratorial and relentless efforts to massacre democracy, they pushed the nation-state of Guyana agonisingly close to the precipice of total collapse and utter destruction.

“It took the combined efforts of resolute political leadership, the patience, perseverance and restraint of every right-thinking Guyanese and the Herculean help of 100 odd countries worldwide, to navigate the ship of Guyana from those tumultuous waters back to the safe harbour of democracy and the rule of law,” Nandlall said.
Under the stewardship of the PPP/C administration, the attorney general said Guyana will become the “New Dubai” of the hemisphere.
Underscoring that the 2020 budget is merely the first intake of fuel for the ship of Guyana as it begins to chart this new course, Nandlall said the theme, “Our Plan for Prosperity” is most apt.

“Firstly, almost half of the monies budgeted here have already been spent by the APNU+AFC and I dare say, illegally so, in violation of the constitution and the Fiscal Management and Accountability Act and without any parliamentary scrutiny whatsoever. Most importantly, there is no evidence to show that it was spent wisely. No project of worth can be pointed to by anyone. My grandmother would say that they ‘bilaway’ the money,” Nandlall said.

The attorney general said that no government in the English-speaking Caribbean since independence has been found guilty more times by the judiciary of violating the constitution and trampling upon the rule of law than the APNU+AFC.

He said that after the elections of March 2, 2020, the world witnessed five months of an admixture of manifest vulgarity, rank fraud and trickery.
This was accompanied by a series of nonsensical litigation; vitriolic abuse of the diplomatic, regional and international community; non-stop comical propaganda; a mountain of the most asinine political argumentations and veiled and not-so-veiled threats of violence and thuggery.

“It was an unparalleled melee of madness never before witnessed in the western hemisphere. Expectedly, it ended the political careers of many, but it should have ended the careers of all involved. Unfortunately, vestiges remain with us and now want to lecture the Guyanese people about democracy and the rule of law – the sheer audacity,” Nandlall exclaimed.

Additionally, the legal affairs minister said the carnage of taxpayers’ dollars will also be halted under the current administration as the 2021 Budget will unfold the other plans to spend taxes wisely for the development of all citizens.
