33 graduate from MBA programme offered by ‘Nations’

THE “Nations University” continues to progress as one of the leading tertiary institutions in Guyana, recording ‘exceptional’ passes in every programme offered this year.
According to a press statement from the university, the students there continue to establish themselves as ‘trendsetters’ in pursuit of advanced education, by continuously leading the way and excelling in the various international programmes offered by the institution. Nations administers a variety of programmes at the tertiary level offered by international institutions such as the University of Bedfordshire, University of London, University of Cambridge, the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Chartered Institute for Procurement and Supply (CIPS), ACCA, ABE, NEBOSH and more. The programmes offered include Master Degrees in Business Administration with the option of five specialisations; a LLM in International Oil and Gas Law and another in International Business Law, project management, international tourism, planning and management, psychology, banking and finance, and public health; and undergraduate degrees such as the LLB and BA in business administration.

A variety of other technical and professional development courses in project management, procurement and supply chain management, ISO 45001 health and safety, and FPSO and oil rig safety manager certification are also offered. In giving a breakdown of the performances by programme, Nations said 33 persons have graduated from the MBA courses, with 10 persons graduating with an oil and gas management MBA; three with a human resources management MBA; three with a marketing MBA; two with a hospital and health services management MBA; and 15 persons with a general MBA. Over 700 students have so far graduated from MBA courses offered by Nations. This programme aims to enhance students’ professional prospects by helping them to develop the capability to apply the latest techniques related to organisational development and change in the competitive global area. Successful completion of the MBA highlights the potential to have a real impact on the transformation of any organisation. Another critical programme, the Master in Education (Leadership), has also “churned out” eight graduates this year. The programme was designed for persons who are in a leadership position or aspire to become a leader within the education sector. It gives educators an opportunity to advance their skills in management and leadership.

Meanwhile, the LLM in International Oil and Gas Law, produced its first two graduates, who are now equipped with their Master of Law in Oil and Gas. This programme, which commenced in August, 2019, gives students one year to complete five modules inclusive of a dissertation. Students, throughout the course of this programme, are exposed to the regulatory environment surrounding both the oil and gas upstream and downstream sectors and international commercial litigation and arbitration. LaToya Herbert and Sursattie Bholaramsingh are the first persons to acquire this qualification through Nations. In addition to the higher-level law programme, five persons were able to successfully complete the LLB programme offered by the Nations School of Law (NSoL). “These students deserve full recognition and applause for such wonderful accomplishments achieved at such an uncertain time amidst a global pandemic that has affected all of us whether that may be financially, mentally or psychologically. “In the midst of an unprecedented move to online examinations and initial glitches in execution at the inception, these students portrayed remarkable dynamism and impeccable versatility and resilience in acquiring their LLB,” said Nations.

Exceptional passes were also recorded in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration programme. An 86 per cent pass rate was also recorded in the Association of Business Executives (ABE) programme. According to Nations, persons would have achieved 52 distinctions and 343 merits at those exams. As the second largest ABE centre in the world, Nations offers internationally recognised diplomas in business with specialisations in human resources and marketing that continuously produce world-wide top paper awardees. The five international top paper awardees this year are Ricardo Semple; Bhabita Sookraj; Odesa Blair; Dibbi Kissoon; and Oleita Loncke. For the technical programmes, the university recorded 100 per cent passes in both the ISO 45001 and the FPSO and oil rig safety manager certification courses.
