2 Cubans, 1 Haitian ordered deported for illegally entering Guyana

Two Cubans and a Haitian who were on Thursday found guilty of illegally entering Guyana were ordered deported when they appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
Rosemary Bcisuloto Perez and her husband Jesus Javier Lezcano Diaz of Cuba and Michelane Aluminet of Haiti entered Guyana from the Corentyne River and disembarked at Springlands, Corentyne on December 4, 2020 without the consent of an Immigration Officer.
Magistrate Rabindranath Singh found them guilty and ordered them to pay a fine of $20,000 each with an alternative of one-week imprisonment. Further, the Police were ordered to deport them to their native countries forthwith.

However, Jesus told the court that he and his wife came from Suriname and wanted to be deported back to Suriname but in response, the Magistrate advised him to make his way back to Suriname if he wanted, but that would be after arriving in his home country.
Earlier this month, Guyana has blocked the entry of more than 1000 Cubans who say they want to come to the American embassy to seek asylum in the United States.

However, it is believed that the Cubans wanted to enter Guyana and then make their way to Brazil.
The Surinamese Government had agreed to provide humanitarian assistance to the group of Cuban migrants stranded at the country’s western border with Guyana.
