Major 4-lane highway to link Parika, new Demerara River bridge

Government is aggressively moving to build a four-lane highway from the West Bank of Demerara to Parika.
The highway will link up a planned new Demerara River harbour bridge which will land between Providence and Peter’s Hall, on the East Bank of Demerara, to the La Grange area, West Demerara.
The Office of the President said that President Irfaan Ali and a team of Government officials visited the proposed site for the road link from Parika to the landing site for the new Demerara Harbour Bridge on the West Bank of Demerara.

The president, along with engineers, army officials and others, visited several areas, and said that the roadway will open up lands for new housing schemes and other developments on the West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo areas.
Government is moving aggressively to build the new bridge which will not have to retract as is the situation with the 40-year-old one that is in place now and has outlived its efficiency.
