THE Government of India has arranged procurement and installation of nine fixed and three mobile high-capacity irrigation pumps for agricultural purposes and mitigation of flooding in Georgetown and the surrounding environment under a line-of-credit financing of US$4M.

On Wednesday, High Commissioner of India to Guyana Dr. K. J. Srinivasa visited four sites at Ruimveldt, Sussex Street, Nooten-Zuil and Hope where the mobile and fixed heavy-duty drainage pumps supplied by India are being installed and commissioned by the technical team from India.
High Commissioner Srinivasa had also visited two other pump stations at Devonshire Castle and Hampton Court, Essequibo, on November 18, 2020, where installation of two fixed pumps at each station is being carried out.

This work is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed by the first week of December 2020.
The contract for the work was awarded to M/S Apollo International Limited, Gurgaon, India.

The Indian company has been working in coordination with the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority of Guyana.
Supervision for installation and commissioning of all 12 pumps will be carried out by the Indian company in the next two months.
