Assistant Commissioner of Police Edgar Thomas has been relieved of his command as the head of Region 4(A) after reportedly failing to clear the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) command center of all persons in wake of a bomb threat that was reported on Thursday.
Thomas last evening confirmed his transfer when contacted Stabroek News. He said that he is now performing duties at Force Headquarters, Eve Leary.
Thomas was spearheading the police operation at the GECOM Media Center, which is also the office for the Returning Officer of Region Four on Thursday when he received a telephone call from one of his superiors informing him of his transfer.
This newspaper was told that Thomas was removed after he reportedly refused to remove several persons, including GECOM Commissioner Sase Gunraj, and clear the premises following the bomb scare.
Senior Supertindent Phillip Azore is now acting in the capacity of head of the division. The policing division of Region 4(a) extends from Agricola to Cumming’s Lodge.
