American Chamber warns of dire consequences for investment, business

The American Chamber of Commerce of Guyana (AMCHAM Guyana) on Friday called upon the President to abide by the Constitution and the ruling of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) to set an elections date immediately.

The Chamber supported Thursday’s joint statement from the U.S., the UK and the EU, which deemed the government unconstitutional.

“The Chamber notes that prolonged periods of uncertainty can have dire consequences on business and investor confidence in Guyana, especially foreign investment,” AMCHAM stated.

In a statement, the Chamber said Guyana’s reputable standing within the International Community will be tested if democratic principles give way to partisan politics.

Among its goals, AMCHAM Guyana aims to provide a network and support structure for U.S. enterprises doing business in Guyana and creating new opportunities to help build mutually beneficial business relations between Guyanese and American companies. – NEWSROOM
